The bachelor’s programme in Pharmacy aims at imparting basic scientific knowledge and methods in the key areas of pharmacy as well as related subject areas. Students obtain a degree qualifying them to enter a profession in the pharmaceutical industry, at universities, other research institutions or laboratories.


Master Pharmacy

The master’s programme in Pharmacy equips students with comprehensive knowledge of the development, production, quality assurance, composition, preparation and storage, biological effects and interactions of pharmaceutical substances/drugs, as well as their safe use. Graduates of this master’s programme have the necessary knowledge and competences to inform, educate and counsel patients and doctors on all relevant pharmaceutical aspects.


Master Drug Discovery and Development

The English language master’s programme in Drug Discovery and Development aims at equipping students with the necessary competences to work as researchers in the area of drug development and deal with current research questions using modern methods. The master’s programme focuses on preclinical drug development and particularly promotes the interdisciplinary connection with the disciplines of pharmacy, biology, chemistry and nutrition.

The doctoral program intends to provide an internationally competitive scientific training of doctoral students in innovative pharma, food and sport research. The school wants to attract motivated students and to guide them towards scientific excellence and independence in a truly unique and dynamic multi-as well as interdisciplinary environment to finally become well-educated, open-minded and responsible graduates.


Postgraduate courses

Pharmaceutical Quality Management

Degree certificate

Duration: 2 semesters (part-time)

Two university continuing education and training programs equip students with the necessary knowledge for a career in pharmaceutical quality management and quality assurance. Until now, the degree programme in Pharmacy provided the only opportunity to acquire the necessary basic knowledge to work as a “qualified person”. Graduates of related degree programmes have the chance to acquire the required knowledge in a postgraduate program.


Clinical pharmacy – medication review

Degree certificate

Duration: 1 semester

Participants in the certificate course acquire fundamental knowledge of pharmaceutical disease management as well as insights into medication review and management. In addition, the certificate course enables participants to independently carry out type 2a medication reviews. Clinical pharmacists are involved in patient-oriented care and contribute to optimising patients’ medication, promoting their health and preventing disease.


Pharmacobotanic Excursion

Duration: 1 week

The aim of this hiking excursion is to explore and botanically analyze the diverse flora and fauna of a particular Austrian region. Please note that we will cover an altitude of 1,000-1,400 meters per day. Following the mostly full-day hikes, there will be a seminar program in the evenings. During the evening discussion, we will analyze the species discovered during the day and talk about the use of the biological material in the folk-, academic and traditional Chinese medicine.

Requirements: Endurance, sure-footedness and very good shoes are absolutely necessary.


Collaborative initiatives

MolTag offers a broad three-year PhD education in pharmaceutical sciences including specialized field courses such as molecular pharmacology, pharmacoinformatics, structure-function analysis of target molecules, biophysics, imaging and advanced synthetic chemistry. Applicants at MolTag have completed a diploma study in medicine or a high quality master program in natural sciences, such as pharmacy, biology, molecular biology or chemistry. MolTag provides comprehensive training in relevant research areas of pharmaceutical research, with focus on drug discovery and drug development. MolTag will provide PhD students with contacts to national and international research labs, including the pharmaceutical industry. We aim to create an atmosphere of collaborative and interdisciplinary research.
